Shwmae Day
A reminder that tomorrow is ‘Shwmae Day’. This is an annual celebration and promotion of the Welsh language. Children are encouraged to wear the colours of the Welsh flag to school (red, green and white) and they will be taking part in a variety of activities throughout the day that will encourage them to use the Welsh language.
PGL Liddington
Well done to our intrepid Year 6 who were brilliant on their residential trip last week! A big thank you to the Bedwas team of Mr Ankin, Miss Hillier, Mr Dimeck and Mrs Farrow who took! Apart from the bus being a little late back the trip went very well indeed.
Curriculum Survey
The link for our curriculum survey is still available on the website (address at the top of the newsletter) until the end of next week. Please take the time to share your ideas and thoughts as these will help us as we move forward with delivering the New Curriculum. The staff and children’s views have already been considered and we now need to extend the sharing of ideas to parents and carers too. One aspect of the new approach is for each school to engage with work understanding its own particular context; what makes Bedwas or Rhydri ‘unique’? This is where local knowledge is invaluable and we are sure that you will be able to help!
Dance Trip
Well done to all our dance stars from years 3 and 4 who represented the school at the DDMIX dance festival held at Cardiff High School last week. The Bedwas team were one of the lucky groups who were able to dance with Dame Darcey herself. We were extremely proud of the children and the way they performed. Thanks to Mrs Beeby who stepped in at the last minute for Ms Storey who was leading this.
Heddlu Bach
We will soon find out who our Heddlu Bach (Mini-Police) for Red Class are. The interviews took place yesterday and were conducted by two representatives from Gwent Police and one of our governors. This is an initiative run by Gwent Police as an outreach project to encourage positive interactions with the Police as well as to encourage the children to take more responsibility in helping their own community. They will be involved in various activities during the year and be issued with their own Heddlu Bach uniforms. The successful applicants will be informed this week. Well done to all of the children who applied for this.
Music Lessons
Music lesson fees for the term (£30) need to paid as soon as possible if this has not already been done. All lessons should now have started, it has been great to see an impressive take-up of the various instruments from all year groups.
Parent Teacher Consultations
These are scheduled for the last week of term – w/c 24th October. Teachers will soon share information about how to book your slot on one of their allocated days.
