Update on the requirements for the Catering Service to comply with 'Natasha's Law'

Schools were contacted this week and informed by Caerphilly Catering that they would need to make changes to their service due to  ‘Natasha’s Law’ which comes into effect on Friday 1st October.

This is the law that relates to potential allergens contained in pre-packed food. It directly impacts on the way that school dinners are packaged and distributed.

Catering held meetings for schools yesterday and issued more guidance today.

We were offered a few possible ways in which we could comply with the requirements of this law.

In our opinion the best way forward, which also enables us to maintain our class bubbles,  is for the children who are having school dinners (currently delivered to their classrooms) to be served their food in the hall (Rhydri) and canteen (Bedwas). The children eating their meals in the hall/canteen will be sat in class bubbles and will have their food at the same time that the other children in their class are having their packed lunches in the classrooms. No other aspect of the lunchtime arrangements will need to be changed.

If any further instruction is given to schools we will need to reassess our plans and any changes required will be shared with you.
