A MESSAGE FROM CAERPHILLY CATERING –

Dear Parent / Carer,

From October 1st Natasha’s Law came into force requiring food businesses in Wales, England, and Northern Ireland to label all pre-packed food with a full ingredients list. The changes require businesses to label all food that is prepacked for direct sale with a full list of ingredients.

The 14 major allergens that must be declared clearly on the label where they are used as ingredients in the food are as follows: -

• Celery

• Cereals containing gluten (such as barley and oats)

• Crustaceans (such as prawns, crabs, and lobsters)

• Eggs

• Fish

• Lupin

• Milk

• Molluscs (such as mussels and oysters)

• Mustard

• Peanuts

• Sesame seeds

• Soya

• Sulfur dioxide (sometimes known as sulphites, if they are at concentrations of more than 10 parts per million)

• Nuts (such as almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, brazil nuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios, and macadamia nuts)

You may have already notified the school of your child’s food allergy or food intolerance, but to comply with Natasha’s Law we need to ensure that we have accurate and up to date information on your child’s dietary requirements.

Your school needs you to tell them if your child suffers from any food allergen or food intolerance by writing / emailing them as soon as possible with the following details: -

• Name of pupil

• Class

• Date of birth

• Details of allergen or food intolerance

• Details of medical consultant if applicable

• Parent/Carer name and contact number

• Email address

From now on your school will contact you annually for this information but please notify your school immediately of any changes if your child develops a food allergy or food intolerance at any time in the future. The school will use this information to inform the schools catering team, who may contact you directly to discuss your individual child’s requirements. The information will also be used by the school at any school events where food products may be offered. All school menus can be viewed on the Caerphilly CBC web pages https://www.caerphilly.gov.uk/Services/Schools-and-learning/School-dinners-and-breakfastclubs/Menus-and-prices, and any specific school events where different food may be offered will be detailed in newsletters or on the school website.

If you need to notify your school of any food allergies or food intolerances, please could you let them know them in writing as detailed above by the 1st November 2021.

Music Lessons

Music lessons have now started again and the deadline for payment to cover lessons was Friday 1st October. If no payment was received by that date we assume that you no longer wish your child to access this provision. If this is not the case please contact the school office to make payment as soon as possible as a few of the music tutors have waiting lists. The cost for the term is £30.

School Dinners

A reminder that school dinners should be paid in advance. If you are unsure please ring the office to check if you have any outstanding debt.

PTA

Rhydri’s PTA would love to hear from you if you think you would be able to give some time to support them in the work they do for our brilliant little school! Please contact the school office if you are interested in being part of our PTA.
